Erica Campbell luhs God and just released a video for her new trap gospel anthem “I Luh God” to prove it.
The gospel singer and star of weTV reality show Mary Mary set off a social media firestorm months back when she released the single, with responses ranging from ratchet jubilation to utter outrage.
The song, produced by LaShawn Daniels, isn’t the first time the singer has found herself exploring new territory in gospel music. As half of the gospel duo Mary Mary, Campbell consistently released material aimed at infusing elements of hip-hop and R&B to reach a broader audience.
“People live in rough neighborhoods and they speak how they speak. No matter where you are, you have to acknowledge that you’re blessed,” the singer said earlier this year on the Tom Joyner Morning Show. She added, “Some people are upset about it, but they’ll be all right. God don’t live in a box. Why should I?”
