A short Snapchat video posted by one of the victims of the Charleston church tragedy caught a haunting image of the victims sitting alongside alleged shooter Dylann Roof on Wednesday night.

26-year-old Tywanza Sanders, who posted the Snapchat video, was one of the churchgoers who died in the shooting after he heroically tried to talk down the shooter and to shield his aunt from the bullets. His aunt, Susie Jackson, also died in the tragedy.

In the video, a group of people sit around a table covered in books and papers. On the far end of the table, a white person with sandy hair can be seen. Sanders’ friends have since identified that person as Roof.

Roof sat with his victims during the Bible study for some time before he began his massacre. According to reports, he went to the historically black church specifically because he wanted to start a “race” war. However, since the incident, Roof admitted to authorities that everyone at the church was so nice to him that he almost did not go through with his plans.

On Wednesday night, Roof shot several members of the church, including Sanders and his aunt as well as South Carolina State Sen. and church Reverend Clementa Pinckney, 41, Cynthia Hurd, 54, Rev. Sharonda Coleman-Singleton, 45, Ethel Lance, 70, Depayne Middleton Doctor, 49, Rev. Daniel Simmons, 74, and Myra Thompson, 59.
