Jill Scott withdraws support for Bill Cosby: 'I was wrong'

Philadelphia soul singer Jill Scott has been among the prominent few who have publicly supported Bill Cosby in the midst of dozens of allegations of sexual assault.

Monday, the singer said she got it wrong.

“I stood by a man I respected and loved,” the singer tweeted to her more than one million followers. “I was wrong. It HURTS!!!”

Scott’s tweet was in response to a bombshell report that, in 2005, Cosby admitted to obtaining drugs (Quaaludes) for the specific purpose of luring women for sex.

The Associated Press report cites sworn testimony from Cosby from 2005. The comedian was accused of drugging and molesting Andrea Constand, a Temple University basketball employee who filed suit against him.

Scott had previously defended Cosby against his many critics, saying media outlets were attempting to “destroy his legacy.”

Now, the R&B singer is changing her tune.
