A young black teen who was recently arrested is dead of an apparent suicide, according to Alabama authorities.
Officials say Kindra Chapman died Tuesday night while in a Homewood City jail cell. The 18-year-old was found unresponsive with a bed sheet tied around her neck, according to police officials.
Chapman had been arrested and booked on a first-degree robbery charge. AL.com’s Carol Robinson reports police said Chapman robbed another person of a cell phone, which led to her arrest. The AL.com report states that Chapman was booked at 6:22 p.m. Tuesday night and was last seen alive at 6:30.
She was found at 7:50 p.m.
Authorities tell theGrio.com investigators are currently gathering statements and other information related to Chapman’s arrest and death.
