With the album Black Rose, Tyrese has scored his first Number 1 album on the Billboard charts since he began his music career 20 years ago.
The sales for the first week of “Black Rose” soared to the top with 86,000 equivalent album units in sales, which surpassed Tyrese’s previous album sales for the first week of his 2011 album “Open Invitation.” “Black Rose” reached 83,000 pure album sales as compared to the 76,000 that his previous album, “Open Invitation” reached. The 2011 album reached Number 9 on the charts but never reached that coveted Number 1 spot.
Tyese celebrated his career milestone with Black Rose on Instagram.
We did it!!!! BREAKING!!! First week of domestic #BlackRose sales? (( I will reveal the international sales tomorrow..)) I dug deep and inspired you into a statement!! 86,400 sold… And only 105k was shipped! ( retailers wouldn’t take a bigger order cause R&B don’t sell )… Thank you!!! Thank you.. My independent album sold 86,400 + copies in its first week…. #1 on the R&B Billboard charts and #1 on the TOP 200 – ( the first #1 album and top 200 for me in 20 years of music ).. I’ve leaned that Pride and EGO is the #1 career and relationship killer…Thank You father God. I have NO pride or ego when it comes to going ALL OUT to produce results… I am pride-less. And Gods favor has been priceless.

Just as interestingly, Tyrese’s first week at the top coincides with Billboard 200’s first week using Nielsen Music’s new tracking week, which starts on Friday and goes through Thursday, instead of the week they used to use, which started on Monday and went through Sunday. The change was made after albums began to be released on Fridays rather than on Tuesdays.
