Morgan Freeman’s step-granddaughter was killed by her boyfriend in what was apparently an attempted exorcism.

The 33-year-old Edena Hines was stabbed 16 times early Sunday, and police have since charged 30-year-old Lamar Davenport with second-degree murder.

Witness George Hudacko saw the whole thing and called 911. According to the New York Post, he recalled the scene, saying that Davenport had screamed as he attacked Hines, “Get out, devils! I cast you out, devils! In the name of Jesus Christ, I cast you out!”

“The girl was making a lot of noise, screaming,” Hudacko said. “I called 911 — I was begging them to come.”

Davenport has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder, police said Monday according to the New York Daily News.

Police arrived on the scene and had to physically restrain Davenport from continuing to stab Hines’ lifeless body. According to a The Post police source, Davenport “was still making a stabbing motion with his arm, but he had nothing in his fist — the knife was jutting out of her chest.”

Freeman issued a statement Sunday saying:

The world will never know her artistry and talent, and how much she had to offer. Her friends and family were fortunate enough to have known what she meant as a person. Her star will continue to shine bright in our hearts, thoughts and prayers. May she rest in peace.
