A 21-year-old suspect who is accused of murder taunted his victim’s family in the courtroom on Tuesday morning.

Antonio Horton Beatty was charged with first degree murder in the death of Carlton Walker Whitley, who was killed in a shooting in late July.

“My daughter shouldn’t have to grow up without a father because of someone else’s stupidity,” Whitley’s fiance Octavia Bryant said, speaking of her infant daughter.

Both Bryant and her daughter attended the courtroom, along with Whitley’s sister, Ebony Silman. Silman said that the suspect looked over at Bryant and smiled, then did the unbelievable.

“On his way out he looked at my niece and looked at my brother’s fiance and stuck his tongue out and laughed,” Silman said.

“What he did in court shows that he does not care,” Bryant said.

Silman described the gesture as “cold-hearted” and said that she was not going to stand for it. She made it clear that she would be fighting for her brother.

“My brother didn’t deserve that,” Silman said. “He worked. He rapped. He took care of his family. He didn’t deserve that. I don’t care if I have to fight an army. I am going to be his voice.”
