Christian rapper tells police he intentionally hit man with car, man dies

Ryan Anthony Salandy, a 22-year-old Christian rapper, is being charged with first-degree murder after he admitted to police that he intentionally hit a man with his car and that man later died.

According to NBC Washington, Montgomery County Police Capt. Paul Starks said that Salandy and the victim, 21-year-old William Dean McDaniel, are believed to have gotten into an argument over music recording until the fight escalated.

“Investigators believe there was some relationship where Mr. McDaniel was formatting or doing something with music given to him by Mr. Salandy,” Starks told NBC.

A witness to the hit and run said that Salandy and McDaniel had been arguing before Salandy drove off angrily, only to return and hit McDaniel with his car before speeding away again. Police were tipped off when Salandy’s mother called them and reported that her son was at home and had been involved in the crash. About 30 minutes after McDaniel was hit, Salandy had been arrested.

The prosecutor requested that Salandy be held without bond because, the prosecutor claimed, Salandy was a risk to the community after having intentionally hit someone with his car.

However, Salandy’s lawyer questioned the nature of Salandy’s confession, in which he told police that he hit McDaniel because he was angry. The lawyer noted that Salandy was “held until 4 a.m. to get whatever confession they may have.”
