Sexually-charged banter on ‘Family Feud’ upsets viewers

Family Feud viewers are getting more than a little annoyed at some of the more explicit answers that have been heard on the show lately.

This week, host Steve Harvey asked contestants to “name the first part of a woman you touch to get her in the mood.”

“Um, that would be the lower front or the vagina,” said the contestant, who then muttered, “I didn’t want to say it.”

This comes after a previous episode of the game show in which contestants were asked to name “the last thing you stuck your finger in.” The contestant replied, “My wife.”

Although videos of both of these answers, along with Harvey’s responses, have garnered over 800,000 views, it’s clear from the YouTube comment section that plenty of viewers are more upset than entertained.

“They come up with these questions now knowing someone will say something like this. Not funny when it’s totally planned,” said one commenter.

But Dan Gainor, vice president of business and culture of the Media Research Center, said that the racy answers are simply a product of a time when more explicit content is accepted in general entertainment.

“I think what has changed is that Hollywood has so undermined and coarsened our culture, that these answers have become the norm,” Gainor said. “Sex acts that many Americans had never even heard of are now typical dialogue.”
