A help wanted ad sparked controversy Thursday when it included a specific ban on Haitians.

According to the Daily News, the ad appeared in the New City, N.Y., Pennysaver, with the company Interim HealthCare Inc. in the Rockland County village of West Haverstraw asking for a female “laid back nurse, no haitians.”

The founder of the Haitian American Nurses Association of Rockland County Berthilde Dufrene also wrote her own post reacting to the ad, in which she said, “This is not just a disrespect of the Haitian nurses but disrespect for the nursing discipline and the entire community that have benefited from the services and care provided by the Haitian nursing professionals.”

New York Senator David Carlucci has also said that he will be asking the New York State Department of Labor and the federal Equal Opportunity Employment Commission to conduct an investigation. “This is outrageous discrimination in its purest form. It is a direct violation of the Civil Rights act and is completely illegal!” he said.

“This company should be ashamed of itself, and Pennysaver should strongly reconsider running any job postings from Interim HealthCare in future publications,” he added.

Interim HealthCare has yet to respond to backlash.
