Officer David Taylor was patrolling the International Rice Festival in Crowley, Louisiana, when a woman pointed out a lost little boy in the crowd.
Taylor picked up the boy and carried him around until they were able to reunite with his mother. A photo of the two of them has since gone viral.
In the picture, Taylor is holding the boy to his chest as the boy is sleeping.
“He was extremely upset…I put him on my shoulders to see if he would be able to see his parents,” Taylor told ABC News. “He started to fall asleep, and I moved him down to my chest.”
Since the photo has gone viral, Taylor has said that he does not like all the attention he has gotten and insists that he was only doing what he, as a police officer, is supposed to do.

“What I was doing is nothing different from the rest of our law enforcement colleagues. The only difference is that someone took a photo of me,” he said.
However, Taylor did say that he hoped that this picture would help to shed a light on what good police officers are like. “If it shines a true light on what police officers do and can do, then [this attention] is a good thing,” he said.
