A Savannah firefighter has been arrested for public intoxication and disorderly conduct and also charged for pointing his weapon at a black couple in a restaurant after a racist tirade turned into an altercation.

A Savannah firefighter has been arrested for public intoxication and disorderly conduct and also charged for pointing his weapon at a black couple in a restaurant after a racist tirade turned into an altercation.

According to WSAV, Savannah Fire Captain Barry Arnold, who was 2014’s Firefighter of the Year, allegedly became agitated with a waitress at a local restaurant, reportedly calling her the n-word and telling his wife, “I don’t know how you like these n****rs” and “I don’t know how they are just allowed to walk around.”

The police report goes on to state that Marquist Curtis and Amber Phillips intervened, telling Arnold to relax. Arnold then directed is rage toward Curtis and Phillips. The police report then reads that Arnold called Phillips a “n****r.” Words were exchanged between both parties before a physical altercation ensued.

When Arnold exited the restaurant, he allegedly retrieved a handgun from his car and pointed it at Curtis and Phillips. Emergency responders were called multiple times during the incident.

One of the responding officers wrote that he could smell the alcohol on Arnold while he was questioning him.
