Rapper Jeezy on Missouri student protests: 'I don't understand what racism is about'

In our latest episode of “Rappers Who’ve Become Woke,” South Carolina native Jeezy added his two cents on recent events in the country.
On a press tour for his 8th studio album, Church In These Streets, Jeezy stopped by HuffPost Live and talked about race relations in America as well as events in Ferguson and, more recently, those at Mizzou.
When asked about what he wanted to see changed, Jeezy went the patriotic route saying:
This is the land of the free, the home of the brave. We have to live and honor that. I just think right now, you have all these people living in this country and they just don’t understand each other. Nothing is bringing them together.
Oh really, it’s just all a big misunderstanding on everyone’s part. Cue collective sigh.
Jeezy continued by commenting on the recent events surrounding the University of Missouri, including the resignation of the president and the chancellor, as well as the two suspects who’ve been arrested for making threats against blacks on campus.
“That’s got to be coming out of a place of ignorance, just for lack of information, just for lack of leadership, just for the lack of mentorship,” said Jeezy about the climate at Mizzou. “It needs to be more education on why we don’t get along. We’re all the same inside.”
Reflecting on his own life, it became evident why Jeezy’s answer seemed slightly elementary.
“I’ve never been a racist. I’ve never really met a racist. I don’t understand what racism is about,” he added, “I got friends from every culture – from Maine to Spain. So I don’t get it.”
