T.I. and Mekhi Phifer join cast of ‘Roots’ remake

Luther Vandross was outed as gay after his death.

A&E is planning to do a remake of the classic Roots series, and T.I., along with Mekhi Phifer, are already on board.

T.I. will be playing a slave named Cyrus who joins the Union Army in their fight against the Confederacy. Phifer will play a slave named Jerusalmen, whose motives seem to be murky.

The remake also boasts a few other big names, such as Forest Whitaker, Anika Noni Rose and Laurence Fishburne.

The remake is supposed to air in four parts, which will air on consecutive nights, and will premiere on all A&E networks, which include Lifetime and History.
