Two high school seniors in Tennessee are going to spend 48 hours in jail, just for violating the school dress code.

Bolivar Central High School has a rule against sagging pants, with a dress code that states “low slung, baggy seat, baggy legged or bell bottom pants are not permitted.” The seniors in question had apparently been warned about their dress multiple times until, finally, they were charged with indecent exposure for an incident in November.

The jail sentence has many people in the community up in arms.

“Maybe we have them do some community service, pick up some trash, help at the dog kennels, things like that,” said Sharon Till. “I think putting them in jail is just a little bit much.”

But others feel the sentence is well-deserved.

“Because the environment is already bad. And it ain’t going to get any better if the older kids don’t try to show the younger kids anything,” Willie Hoyle said.
