Luther Vandross was outed as gay after his death.

On Thursday, the second annual Diamond Ball was held at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California, and while she was there, Rihanna rocked a stunning gold gown and spoke a little bit about her family.

The singer talked about her grandmother, who died in 2012 of cancer, and said that she could still feel her grandmother’s hand in her life. “She is definitely here in spirit and she feels delighted to be a part of such a great cause, raising money in her honor, to help, save and change many lives,” Rihanna said.

She also talked about her growing extended family, specifically her cousin Noella Alstrom’s 18-month-old daughter, Majesty.

“Majesty is a feisty one, just like all the woman in my family,” she said. “She already has her personalities. It’s so cute.”

She also gave a quick update on her long-awaited new album, saying, “The album is coming soon!”

The ball collected charitable proceeds that would go toward the renovation of Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Barbados “into the most modern cancer treatment facility in the Caribbean.”

“I am beyond proud of the work the Clara Lionel Foundation has done,” she said of the work being done to tranform the hospital.
