Marvin Banks, the man who was suspected in the shooting of two Mississippi cops, was alone in his isolation cell when he was discovered unresponsive on Friday night.

According to the Forrest County Sheriff’s Office, emergency personnel performed CPR on Banks until he was transported to Forrest General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Banks’ cause of death is not yet clear, and the incident is currently being investigated.

Banks was in jail, without bond, on capital murder charges stemming from the deaths of two police officers, Benjamin Deen, 34, and Liquori Tate, 25. The officers were killed during a traffic stop in May. According to police, Deen pulled over a speeding car, which was being driven by Banks’ girlfriend, and decided to search the car. Tate was called in for backup.

Deen asked the passengers of the car, three people in total, to get out, but when they did, Banks shot Deen in the face and shot Tate in the lower back. Both officers, despite wearing bullet-resistant vests, later died in the hospital.

Three other suspects were also arrested in relation to the case.

Banks was also charged with grand larceny and possession of a weapon by a felon in addition to the charges of capital murder.
