Teenager dies after falling off hoverboard and being hit by bus

A British teenager was dragged 200 yards by a bus along a London road after he fell off of his hoverboard and into the path of the bus.

According to witnesses, the 15-year-old Nawaf Al-Tuwayan “did not look confident” balancing on the hoverboard shortly before he fell on Friday.

One witness, Jeffery Mingle, chased after the bus after it his Al-Tuwayan, because the driver was apparently not aware that he had hit the boy.

“I knocked on his door, shouting, ‘You need to stop, you need to stop’,” Mingle said to Mirror Online.

Emergency services rushed to help the boy once the bus had stopped. “The boy was under the bus. It was terrible,” Mingle said. “It took them 15 minutes to raise up the bus, and another 20 minutes to get the boy out.”

The bus driver has not been arrested and is reportedly shaken up. A colleague described the incident as “devastating for him as well as the family of the boy.”

Authorities have long questioned the safety of hoverboards, and this is not the first time one has proven to be dangerous, with a hoverboard recently exploding in Washington on Tuesday, and other explosions or incidents of hoverboards catching fire have been reported since the new toy became popular.

British authorities have seized several thousands of the hoverboards over safety concerns.
