Florida man high on flakka tries to break into jail 'to visit friends'

A Florida man who was allegedly high on flakka at the time has been accused of ramming his car into the Indian River County Jail and then scaling the fence in an attempt to break into jail and visit his friends.

According to WPBF, deputies say the man, 24-year-old Patrick Rempe, drove his vehicle into the front doors of the jail and only narrowly missed hitting a deputy who was standing nearby outside.

Rempe then tried to scale the fence but became entangled in the razor wire. An Emergency Medical Services team was called in to get him down.

After Rempe was retrieved from the fence, he reportedly told deputies that he was “high on flakka” and that he just wanted to “visit friends who were in the jail.”

“This is what drugs do to you. Flakka is poisoning our youth. Fortunately, none of our deputies were injured and our facility wasn’t compromised,” said Indian River County Sheriff Deryl Loar.

Rempe is now facing several charges, including aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, battery on a law enforcement officer, three counts of felony criminal mischief, leaving the scene of a crash with property damage, driving under the influence.
