Toys R Us – what’s going on?

That’s exactly what Cincinnati Bengals running back James Wilder Jr. would like to know in response to his recent shopping experience.

Wilder posted a video to his Facebook page lamenting the treatment he received for ‘shopping while black.’

Wilder said he arrived at the store and was confronted by a manager who accused him of having tried to steal a cart full of toys earlier that same day.

“Calls us to the front, calls the sheriff,” Wilder said as he related the story in a Facebook video. “Now I’m sitting up here at the front. Messed up my whole shopping process, messed up my day ’cause we in Kentucky Toys R Us and they say I want to steal, like I got a reason to steal.”

He went on to say that he asked if he could see the footage from earlier so that he could prove that he was not the man who had attempted to steal from the store earlier. Instead, the police were called, and he was asked to leave.

Wilder said that the whole incident left him feeling “publicly humiliated, offended and embarrassed.”

Toys R Us hasn’t issued a formal statement in response to Wilder’s claims – only that the company is looking into the manner.
