Beyoncé reportedly penning screenplay about 'Hottentot Venus,' will play lead role

Beyoncé is reportedly writing a screenplay – and casting herself in the lead role.

The subject of the upcoming film is Saartjie Baartman, a South African woman who “performed” against her will under the name ‘Hottentot Venus.’ Baartman was put on display in London throughout the early 1800s, and revered for her physique and large backside.

With the help of British abolitionists, Baartman argued in court she had been forced to perform against her will. The court ruled against her.

A Sun report suggests Beyoncé is enlisting a staff of acting coaches and writers to make the project as thorough as possible.
