On Monday, police said that U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch’s stepdaughter was briefly detained after she quarreled with an Uber driver over an unpaid fare.
Apparently, Kia Absalom thought that her fare had already been paid through the Uber app. While that is usually the case with Uber fares, the driver was part of the UberT service, which does not use the app but accepts cards and cash.
“I asked her to pay me,” driver Hassan Almaweri told the Daily News. “She said, `No, I paid by the app.”’
After the two argued over the fare, the driver took Absalom to the police station. She was not fingerprinted or booked, but she was detained for around half an hour until her boyfriend could arrive to pay the fee, which was around $20, because she did not have any money in her with which to pay the driver.
