Lamarr McDow, whose girlfriend Marie Holmes has spent $21 million of her $188 million Powerball lottery earnings to bail him out of jail three times, is speaking out in his first interview.

McDow defended Holmes’ choice to bail him out multiple times, saying that their relationship meant they were supposed to be there for each other.

“We are a couple, and I am the father of her youngest child. This is what people do for each other. She has the money and she can do what she wants with it,” he said. “If I had that money then I would do the same for her. People are just jealous because of how much she won and people want to see me locked in jail.”

McDow was already in jail when Holmes won the money, but she used $3 million of her winnings to bail him out. He was arrested a few months later for breaking the terms of a pre-trial agreement, and once more, Holmes came forward with bail money, this time a sum of $6 million. Most recently, Holmes paid another $12 million to bail McDow out after he was arrested on charges of being involved in an illegal street race. All told, she has spent $21 million on bail for McDow.

Despite the heft sum, McDow claimed that he did not care what people thought.

“People can say what they like and it don’t hurt us,” said McDow. “She is standing by her man.”
