Take our poll #TeamJada or #TeamJanetHubert: Are the Oscars worth boycotting?

Luther Vandross was outed as gay after his death.

For a second year in a row, the Academy Awards are going to be a nearly all-white affair. There are no black nominees in any major categories, prompting social media to dub America’s most popular award show as #OscarsSoWhite. Spike Lee and Jada Pinkett Smith (whose husband, Will Smith, many believe was snubbed), have called for blacks to boycott the televised event on February 28.

However, many, like Will Smith’s estranged former co-star Janet Hubert, feel that a boycott of the Oscars only serves rich black Hollywood actors. She believes there are issues that far more important to a greater number of African-Americans, such as police brutality, mass incarceration, the water crisis in Flint, Michigan, and gentrification.

Grio fam, we want to see where you stand on this: are you #TeamJada or #TeamJanetHubert? Is it worth boycotting the Academy Awards this year? Take the poll below.
