A Good Samaritan in North Carolina was killed by the motorist he was trying to help as a winter storm hit the East Coast this weekend.

Jefferson Heavner saw that a car had spun out on the icy roads and went to help the driver, Marvin Jacob Lee, on Friday, according to witnesses. However, Lee became belligerent, prompting several neighbors to come outside.

“They thought he was drunk and said, ‘let’s just call the law and let them deal with it,’” said Catawba County Sheriff Roy Reid.

Lee then allegedly took out a gun and fired “numerous times,” shooting Heavner even after he had fallen.

Lee returned to his car and refused to surrender to deputies, so a SWAT team was called in. The team discovered Lee passed out in the car and pulled him from the vehicle.

Lee is now being held on a murder charge for the incident.
