An 18-year-old Chicago teenager named Leon Teague has been charged with animal torture after a Facebook video was posted to his account showing him allegedly pouring boiling water on a cat after luring it to his back porch.

“The cat…ran from one end of the porch to the other screaming in pain,” according to the police report, reported the Chicago Sun-Times.

Heather Weidmann, who saw the video and was horrified, was able to track down the cat and rescue it. “I cried my eyes out, it’s horrible,” the 43-year-old told the Chicago Tribune.

“We showed up in the alley, and the cat was there,” Weidmann said, describing how she and her friend Melissa Belice met with police and Chicago Animal Care and Control officers in order to track down the animal. “We called him over. He was friendly. His fur is singed and he has burns on him. He’s got scabbing but he’s very friendly and he’s in great spirits.”

Weidmann said that they are still trying to find a name for the cat.

“He’s got to have a pretty damn special name,” she said. “For everything that he’s been through, to still come up and let us touch him and pet him, he’s pretty damn special.”
