Judge arrested for DWI on her way to court, previously worked in ‘drunken driving bureau’

Rochester City Court Judge Leticia Astacio was charged with misdemeanor driving while intoxicated after her car was damaged in what was apparently was a one-car crash.

Astacio was not injured in the crash, according to police.

Astacio, 34, was reportedly on her way to court “to preside over criminal court arraignments,” according to the Associated Press.

According to Trooper Chris Kowalski, the investigation into the crash and the circumstances surrounding it is still ongoing.

Astacio was charged with DWI with refusal because she refused to take a Breathalyzer test. She joined the Monroe County District Attorney’s Office in 2007, according to the Democrat & Chronicle. She was elected to her judicial post in 2014 and previously worked in the Office’s drunken driving bureau in 2009.

According to the Associated Press report, Astcio is set to appear in court next month.
