Reginald F. Lewis, a Baltimore native, was the first African-American to build a billion dollar company.

If you travel to Baltimore, you can find a museum with his name that sits proudly in the heart of the city.

Lewis was born in an East Baltimore neighborhood and graduated from Virginia State University and Harvard Law School.

In the early 1980s, Lewis purchased a company that was failing and later resold it for $65 million. He later purchased Beatrice Foods, and turned it into Beatrice International Foods helping it make the Forbes 500 list. At the time, the company was one of the largest black-owned businesses in the world.
