Two Atlanta police officers were relieved of duty after they allegedly got into a fight over which one of the could run faster. During the fist fight, one of them allegedly pulled his gun.

Officers Stephen Green and Joseph Tyer were eating with a few of their fellow officers on Friday morning at R. Thomas Restaurant in Buckhead when they began to banter about who could run faster. Then, the banter took a suddenly dangerous turn as Tyler said, “I’m going to punch you in the face.”

The argument then came to blows, and Tyler allegedly pulled his service weapon, according to Officer Lukasz Sajdak, a spokesman for the Atlanta police. The other officers pulled the fight apart, and no shots were fired.

“The Atlanta Police Department takes these allegations very seriously,” the Office of Professional Standards, which has opened up an investigation into the incident, said in a statement. “Chief [George] Turner has always prioritized officer accountability and professional behavior at all times. He will continue to take decisive action when necessary to hold his employees to the highest standard.”

Green has been put on administrative leave following the fist fight, while Tyler resigned from the force on Tuesday.
