After the news of Phife Dawg’s passing, many fans wondered just how best to honor A Tribe Called Quest’s loss. A few thousand fans believe they have found the answer: they want to rename a New York street after A Tribe Called Quest.
The Change.org petition, which calls for Linden Boulevard between 192 Street and 193 Street in Queens to be renamed “A Tribe Called Quest Boulevard,” already has over 3,000 signatures on it, and their goal is to gather 5,000 signatures.
It reads:
Sadly, this week it was reported that Malik “Phife Dawg” Isaac Taylor of the Iconic Hip Hop group A Tribe Called Quest has died. We are requesting the cooperation of Council Member I. Deneek Miller and Speaker Mark-Viverito to support our new proposed co-naming of Linden Boulevard between 192 Street and 193 Street to: A Tribe Called Quest Boulevard.
Please help us by signing this petition and bringing awareness to this cause. We’re very close at making this a reality but need your help!
Signed,
HHDG – Members of The Hip Hop Discussion Group
When the petition reaches its signature goal, it will be brought to Councilmember I. Daneek Miller and Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito for their decision.
