NeNe Leakes radiated star power as she strutted around the NBC summer press tour Thursday alongside Melissa Rivers while promoting her latest gig as co-host of E!’s Fashion Police.
River’s gushed over her new co-host during an interview with theGrio.com.
“The thing about NeNe is she’s fun, she’s outspoken, she brings a ton of energy, an opinion,” she said. “I know if I’m sitting and having fun, then the viewers are having fun… and that’s what it’s really all about.”
Leakes wasn’t shy about discussing the rousing three-part season 8 reunion of The Real Housewives of Atlanta, which concludes tonight on Bravo.
Leakes said her fans have to been quick to point out her absence during the first two installments of the reunion.
Obviously everyone is saying ‘NeNe, we want you back. You’re the queen of the peach.’ I think Kenya said something at the reunion like, ‘you’re on my show,’ like she’s the queen of the show or something. So all the fans lost their mind on that. My whole social media went down with people saying, ‘NeNe get out there, get out there.’ Everybody wanted me to be on the show, and I’ll always be on the Housewives in some capacity. I feel like Bravo is my home… they launched my career. Absolutely.
Leakes hinted at the possibility of picking up her peach for another season but said, “the honest truth is Housewives hasn’t reached out to any of us yet for season 9.”
She also took a moment to weigh in Cynthia Bailey and Peter Thomas’ marriage, which appears to be in turmoil. Bottomline, NeNe says the couple should not divorce.
I know Cynthia and Peter are going through a hard time, and obviously I went through a hard time on the show with my marriage, I would just say to Cynthia, and do say this to her everyday that we talk. She needs to keep it private… keep it personal right now. If her and Peter want to separate for a little while to get their heads right that’s okay. Maybe they just need a break. I do not suggest divorcing just because you guys are upset with each other. I say give it some time.
Fans of Leakes can now follow her across the country for her So Nasty So Rude one-woman comedy tour, which kicks off with a sold-out show April 13, in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Leakes made it clear that she was not in any way “inspired” by Wendy Williams’ one-woman stand-up comedy tour which ran in 12 city last year.
I was not inspired by Wendy Williams, and if you look at my social media, you will see what I posted about my show last year, but I couldn’t launch it at the time because I ended up doing other things. I went to Chicago on Broadway, so I couldn’t do my one woman show. After I announced it, Wendy actually announced after me. I had to not go out because of Broadway. My show is a one-woman show that’s about my life. I’m not trying to be a comedian; I’m just a funny lady, and I hope that you guys laugh along the way about my life. That’s all. I don’t think Wendy is a comedian, and I’m not trying to be competitive against her one way or another. I’m NeNe Leakes; I’m gonna do my thing, period.
