When Adrienne Bailon was spotted out and about last month with Gospel singer Israel Houghton only a month after he had admitted to having cheated on his wife and getting divorced, the rumors began to circulate that she was the reason Houghton’s marriage broke up.
But, Bailon said in an upcoming episode of The Real, the rumors just aren’t true.

Bailon says she didn’t even know Houghton five years ago, which is when he said he cheated on his wife. She insisted that she only began dating him when Houghton became a single man again.
“He is single, number one. And I think the other thing that people were saying was that I was the cause of his divorce. Which I think any divorce is obviously a sad thing people have to go through. It takes time to get through that sort of thing. And I think no-one put that time together. I think you see an announcement made you know, at the top of this year and then you see these photos and you say to yourself, ‘Well let’s put this together.’ But this is why I’m grateful for moments like this because it allows you to set the facts straight. And God forbid the facts get in the way of a really good juicy story,” she said.

“He had put out a statement saying that um he had failed in his marriage and it was about five years back. I didn’t know him at that time, so to put that blame on me was obviously hurtful.”
Houghton also spoke out last month on Facebook defending his relationship with Bailon.

It’s incredibly unfair to allow someone to carry the burden, blame & shame of something they had nothing to do with,” he wrote on Facebook.

He went on to add that he met Bailon two years ago, so it wasn’t like the two didn’t already know each other and have a friendship to build on.
“As I previously wrote in a statement I released a while back, My marriage had been over for quite some time before going public with my divorce announcement…I had not even yet met Adrienne during the time my marriage was falling apart,” he continued. “It deeply saddens me that an innocent party would be dragged into this situation that I have taken personal responsibility for. Adrienne is a woman of integrity & character… Most of all she is a true friend, and she should not be blamed for my past indiscretions.”
