A Georgia man who killed his stepdaughter was allegedly upset because of a delayed tax refund.

Bryon Winborne and his stepdaughter Kysha Johnson were arguing last month about taxes when Winborne grabbed a gun and shot her as she was walking away from him, according to testimony from Gwinnett County Police Detective Shannon Kulnis. Johnson was holding her three-year-old son’s hand at the time she was shot.

Winborne was reportedly upset Johnson may have been “hiding” the refund from him.

According to a WXIA-TV report, Winborne remained in the home until he could hear police sirens before fleeing. Johnson was taken to the hospital, where she later died.

Winborne, who faces charges of felony murder and aggravated assault, is reportedly a veteran undergoing counseling because he is suffering from PTSD.
