Ernie Johnson had been sent out by his wife, Sherill, to go pick up something for dinner when he decided at the last minute to stop and buy a “$120 Million Cash Spectacular” ticket. That last-minute decision netted him $1 million.

Johnson said that he didn’t go on to get the dinner he had been sent to get when he realized what had happened. Instead, he went right back home to go tell his wife. “I turned around and went back home,” Johnson said. “Winning a million dollars delayed our appetite.”

At first, Sherill said, she didn’t believe her husband, because it was so close to April Fool’s Day. But when she finally came around to believing him, the two called their pregnant daughter, who fainted at the news.

“She was OK. We were at my grandchild’s birthday party, and it was at a firehouse in a room you can use for public events, so the paramedics were right there,” Ernie said. “She was fine within a couple minutes, so it’s all good now.”
