Afrika Bambaataa accused of sex abuse by three more men

Luther Vandross was outed as gay after his death.

Three new men have come forward to accuse hip hop pioneer Afrika Bambaataa of sexual abuse.

In an interview with The New York Daily News, a man named Hassan Campbell says that, when he was 12 and 13, Bambaataa abused him. “He is a pervert,” Campbell added. “He likes little boys.”

Campbell says Bambaataa was a father figure to him and his house was filled with excitement. “He had the most fun house in the world,” he said. “There were celebrities there, musicians, neighborhood heroes. It was the best place to be – and the worst place to be.”

Campbell and others stepped forward with their allegations after a story was published last Saturday in which Democratic Party activist Ronald Savage claimed that Bambaataa abused him multiple times in 1980 and left deep emotional scars. Since then, a man who has requested that his identity not be published has also stepped forward.

“I know what Ronald Savage is saying is true because he did it to me,” said the 50-year-old New York man. “I have never spoken to anybody about this and when I did, I said ‘Holy s—, they finally caught up to him.'”

All Bambaataa’s accusers say that when they were children, the rapper would show them pornographic material and proceed to perform oral sex on them.

A 51-year-old former New Yorker named Troy also came forward, though he asked that his last name not be used.

“I still have a lot of anger about this,” said Troy, who now lives in North Carolina. “I’ve been dealing with this for years. It’s a shame this didn’t come out earlier.”

According to the National Center for Victims of Crime, 1 in 20 boys is a victim of child sexual abuse.

Bambaataa has denied the claims through his lawyer.  Strangely enough, Bambaataa’s hip hop crew Zulu Nation suggested the abuse allegations are part of a plot by the U.S. government to discredit and destroy the organization.

In New York state, victims of sex abuse can’t pursue criminal charges or civil litigation after their 23rd birthday, something Savage is advocating to change.
