Students at Penn State University were more than happy to help the boyfriend of a beloved staff member, Duquina Johnson, to propose after his original engagement plans fell through.

James Irvin said that he got the idea to propose at the university’s Blue and White Weekend, when many alumni would be returning to the school.

“I called my fraternity brothers and they said they’d help me set it up,” said Irvin, who’s a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated.

Members of the school’s Gamma Nu chapter pitched in to help with the proposal as they held up signs with significant dates from their relationship. Michael Jackson’s “Do You Remember the Time?” played in the background as Irvin danced and pointed to the various signs before leading up to the proposal itself.

When he dropped to one knee, he said, “You always used to tell me that you prayed for love and I was the answer to your prayer. But in reality, you were the answer to mine.”

When an emotional Johnson said yes to his proposal, the students rushed in around them, celebrating the newly engaged couple, and Johnson said that she was glad to have her students, who she called her “kids,” by her side in that moment.
