UPDATE: Local police report that Mateen called 9-1-1 just before the attack and pledged allegiance  to ISIS.

Local authorities have identified the gunman in the Pulse nightclub massacre as Omar Mateen. The FBI has called this incident an act of terrorism.

It is reported that Mateen is a US citizen whose family is from Afghanistan. According to the report from TMZ:

Mateen’s father told NBC News, “This has nothing to do with religion.”  He says his son became angry after seeing 2 men kissing a few months ago in Miami, and he speculates that could have triggered his decision to kill.

The NYPD apparel is generic and available to anyone to purchase.

UPDATE: NBC’s Pete Williams reports that Mateen was on an FBI watch list.
