An Iowa TV reporter was attacked and called the N-word while reporting at the scene of an officer-involved shooting.

According to KCCI-TV, the reporter, Emmy Victor, and photojournalist Zachary Hayes were attacked by the mother of a man who was killed by police.

“Get the f*ck out of here, you stupid f*cking n*gger,” the woman said to Victor, who is black.

“Don’t ever,” Victor said calmly, prompting the woman to return and get in Victor’s face. “I f*cking told you he was f*cking dead. So don’t stand there and tell me you don’t know.”

The angry woman then confronts Hayes and seems to tear off some of his equipment.  Both Hayes and Victor can be heard telling the woman that they are going to call the police.

“They gonna shoot me, too?” the woman asks in footage captured of the incident. “C’mon, right here. Tell them to come f*cking shoot me.”

The woman’s son, Michael Disbrowe, was shot and killed after police responded to reports of a man “threatening people with a gun.” He reportedly drew a gun from his waistband when confronted by officers and ignored commands to put it down, even pointing it at the officers, which prompted them to shoot him.

KCCI’s general manager commended both Victor and Hayes for demonstrating “the utmost professionalism in the face of a very difficult, emotionally-charged situation.”

Many other journalists have particularly praised Victor for her conduct in the heat of the moment.
