Georgia news anchor dies a day before her birthday after being swept over a waterfall

Taylor Terrell, news anchor for 41NBC News at Daybreak and 41Today, died after falling 185 feet off of Rainbow Falls inside the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

The U.S. Forest Service said Terrell was walking in the stream that flows over Rainbow Falls on the Pissgah Ranger District when she lost her footing and was swept over the falls by the current.

Taylor reported for the station’s education series, “What’s Right with Our Schools.” She started as an intern at the station following her graduation from Georgia Southern University.

Than she was promoted to reporter, and following that promotion, she was promoted to weekend anchor.

The station released this statement regarding her death, “To say that this loss is devastating for us here at 41NBC and to her family is an understatement. Taylor was scheduled to be off today to celebrate her 25th birthday. Instead, we’re remembering her spirit, her optimism, and her work. At this time, we do not have information about funeral arrangements. We will update you as we receive more information.”
