Recently, Wendy Williams caused controversy and uproar when she made comments questioning the need for HBCUs and the NAACP. She stated on her talk show “”On the other hand, I would be really offended if there was a school that was known as a historically white college. We have historically Black colleges. What if there was the National Organization for White People, only? There’s the NAACP.” And as a result, it seems three producers have been fired from the show.

One of the producers, Jason Gabel, had been with the program since 2008. The names of the others were not immediately available.

Roland Martin visited the show and schooled Wendy Williams on the importance of HBCU’s “When it comes to our colleges, we couldn’t go to those schools,” he said. “As a matter of fact, we couldn’t read during slavery. You could be killed if you were found to be reading. So, that’s why it is so critically important… Our institutions are allowing us to survive in America even though we built this country.” Wendy did apologize for her earlier comments.

Reports state that the reason for their firing was that the show is heading in a slightly new direction, with more coverage of current-affairs and pop culture being added to the mix. A spokeswoman for the show was not available to comment on the accusations.
