Jason Wilson isn’t here for the idea that boys don’t cry.
Wilson teaches Musar Ru, a combination of meditation and martial arts that allows young men to gain control over their emotions.
During one especially charged session, a 9-year-old boy named Bruce was brought to tears when he struggled to break a block. Wilson stopped to talk to the boy and tell him that it was alright to cry and to help him through that moment of emotional vulnerability.
Wilson’s organization decided to share the video online “to encourage all of you to not only allow your sons to cry when facing emotional stress, but more importantly, patiently walk them through it.”
“You know in life there’s going to be things harder to do than other things?” Wilson says in the video before going on to explain to Bruce that there would be challenges throughout his life that were “going to take tears.”
“What we are witnessing is a generation of boys who were fathered by men who were given by their fathers a false sense of masculinity,” Wilson later explained to Upworthy. “It’s imperative that we, the men and fathers of this generation, do not allow our boys to grow up the way many of us did.”
