Houston mother charged with drowning her two children, ages 5 and 7, after telling neighbor about killing
A Houston man was surprised when he was helping his neighbor move and asked her where her children were as a matter of conversation. According to Houston police spokesman Kese Smith, Sheborah Thomas matter-of-factly told the man that she had drowned her 7-year-old son, Oraylan, and 5-year-old daughter, Kahana, but the man didn’t believe her at first.

“She was so matter-of-fact about it, he didn’t think she was serious. He thought she was joking,” Smith said. “He continued to help her pack.”

But when Thomas continued to insist that she had killed her children, the neighbor realized she might actually be serious and drove her to a nearby police precinct, where he flagged down an officer.
On Sunday, the bodies of the two children were found under a neighbor’s house. Thomas reportedly confessed to trying to bury them, but when it proved too difficult, she stashed their bodies there.
Authorities have not yet determined a motive for the murder.
“She made sure she kept the kids clean,” neighbor Shirley Baines told KHOU. “She takes care of them. She goes to the store…to me she was like, a real nice person. They are good kids.”
“How am I going to tell my brother about his kids?” said the children’s aunt, Kita Thomas, who told KHOU their father was in jail. “While you were there, how did you feel drowning your kids? You felt something, you felt some kind of guilt, something told you this is not right, but you kept doing it?”
A GoFundMe page has been set up by their aunt to raise $10,000 for funeral expenses.
