Rapper Nelly has been hit with a federal tax lien by the IRS for over $2.4 million.
The $2,412,283 lien, reported by TMZ, is so enormous that if Nelly–real name Cornell Iral Haynes, Jr.–does not pay up, his assets and property will be seized.
The St. Louis native also has state tax troubles, as the Missouri Department of Revenue said he owed $149,511 in unpaid taxes from 2013. Before interest, that figure was $113,533.
In July, Nelly’s 2000 debut album, Country Grammar, earned a diamond certification status with over 10 million units sold.
Fans used the rapper’s recent money problems as an opportunity to poke a little fun, with Black Twitter calling on supporters to stream his Billboard no. 1 hit, “Hott In Herre,” in order to help pay off his mounting bills. The hashtag #SaveNelly is worth taking a look at.
Reps for the hip-hop artist said he is currently working with tax authorities to resolve his money issues.
