She’s Gotta Have It is making a comeback, this time in the form of a Netflix television series.

The streaming service giant has ordered a 10-episode series based on Spike Lee’s career-defining movie. Netflix announced on Thursday that the series would be a “contemporary update” to the 1986 film.

The series will be directed by Lee, who developed the series with his wife and executive producer Tonya Lewis Lee.

“SHE’S GOTTA HAVE IT Has A Very Special Place In My Heart [sic],” Lee said in a press release. “We Shot This Film In 12 Days (2 Six Day Weeks) Way Back In The Back Back Of The Hot Summer Of 1985 For A Mere Total of $175,000. Funds That We Begged, Borrowed and Whatnot To Get That Money. This Is The 1st Official Spike Lee Feature Film Joint And Everything That We Have Been Blessed With In This Tough Business Of Film All Have Been Due To SGHI [sic].”

The announcement comes on the heels of the film’s 30th anniversary just last month, and we have to say: this is certainly an exciting way to mark an anniversary!
