Netflix’s straight-to-series comedy, “Dear White People,” which is based on the Sundance film of the same name, is expanding its cast, with Nia Long the latest to join its ranks.

The show takes place on a predominately white college campus and follows a diverse group of students of color and examine the racial issues lying just below the surface.

Long will be playing a character named Neika Hobbs, an African-American studies professor at Winchester University. Hobbs’ professional life showcases her own intelligence and wit, while her personal life is not quite as sharp as she would like it to be.

The series is set to premiere in 2017 on Netflix.
