Luther Vandross was outed as gay after his death.

Following the release of partial video of the Keith Lamont Scott shooting by Charlotte police, radio recordings from the incident have been released that seem to confirm the timeline given by police for the incident.

According to police, they had seen Scott with a gun and marijuana while they were looking for someone else.

“Roll back to this apartment complex behind you. There was a guy parked next to us rolling a joint and had a gun,” an officer is heard saying on the radio at 3:47 p.m., later clarifying his position by saying, “We’re back here at the other visitor parking.”

The officers then paused to put on vests that would identify them as police officers before confronting Scott, and at 3:52 p.m., just 37 seconds after Police Officer Brentley Vinson fired four times, the shots were reported.

“We got shots fired!” he radioed. “One suspect down. Lexington Court.”

While the radio account shows officers saying that Scott was armed and had marijuana, Scott’s family has maintained that he was instead simply sitting in his car and reading a book.

After Scott’s death at the hands of police, the city of Charlotte, North Carolina, has been flooded with protests over police brutality.
