Rapper Vince Staples defends white mom who trashed his song

Recently, a YouTube video went viral of a white Christian mother having a meltdown over accidentally hearing rapper Vince Staples’ song “Norf Norf,” claiming that the song was dirty and inappropriate for her daughters to hear.

But rather than trash the woman in return, Staples defended her right to decide what was and was not appropriate for her children, saying on Wednesday, “No person needs to be attacked for their opinion on what they see to be appropriate for their children. They have a right to it.”

He then added, “This misunderstanding of our community leads to miscommunication which we should convert into a progressive dialogue,” before he declared, “Thats all I have to say about that. Stop asking me.”

The mother posted an 11-minute video in which she read aloud the lyrics to “Norf Norf” and burst into tears several times, clearly upset over the lyrics and the message of the song, which portrays Staples’ adolescent years in California and the violence he saw.

“This rap song comes on. Guys, I could not believe what I was hearing,” the mother says in the video. “This is on our local radio station? This crap is being played?”

The viral video has been viewed over 800,000 times.
