After Donald Trump refused to say that he would accept the results of the election if he lost to Hillary Clinton, a 1993 letter from George H.W. Bush to Bill Clinton is going viral as it shows just how you are supposed to lose graciously.
The letter welcomed Bill Clinton to the White House and spoke about the “sense of wonder” that comes from sitting in the Oval Office.
“I wish you great happiness here,” the letter said.
“You will be our President when you read this note. I wish you well. I wish your family well,” the note goes on. “Your success is now our country’s success. I am rooting for you.”
Although Hillary Clinton posted the letter to her Instagram page back in June, Trump’s comments during the debate on Wednesday have propelled it back into the spotlight as a glaring contrast of how you should act after losing.
During the debate, Trump was asked whether or not he would accept the results of the election, since he has been claiming repeatedly that the election is rigged. Trump responded by saying, “I will look into it at the time,” before adding, “I will keep you in suspense.”
