A former Texas middle school teacher has pleaded guilty to aggravated sexual assault of a child after being impregnated by a 13-year-old student that she admits to having sex with “on almost a daily basis.”
Alexandria Vera taught eight grade at Houston’s Stovall Middle School before, in May, she surrendered to authorities. By pleading guilty to the charges leveled against her, Vera lowered the maximum sentence from 25 to 5 years, with the possibility of being released on probation.
Vera and the student met in summer school in 2015. By September, they exchanged phone numbers, and the student asked to hang out with her. They met up and drove around before they kissed. The next day, she went to his home while his parents were gone, and they had sex.
The boy introduced Vera to his parents as his girlfriend, and court documents allege that they “accepted their relationship,” even inviting her to family functions. They were “supportive and excited” about the baby.
However, Vera had an abortion after Texas Child Protective Services officials questioned her in February about the relationship, and she was placed on administrative leave in April after the allegations of sexual assault were leveled against her.
