Taraji P. Henson had auditioned for the role of Olivia Pope on “Scandal,” but she’s glad she didn’t get it.

During a recent interview, the “Empire” actress explained that she knew the role should’ve gone to Kerry Washington as soon as she read it the script.

“I auditioned for Shonda Rhimes for ‘Scandal’. Thank God, Kerry [Washington] got it. It was her job. I think that was the last time I auditioned,” she said.

“I’m not that actress that wants to do everything. When I got it [the script], I was like ‘This is Kerry Washington’. That was her blessing.”

Things, of course, worked out for the better as Henson–who stars in the upcoming film Hidden Figures–is one of Hollywood’s most beloved actresses thanks to her dynamic role as Cookie Lyon.
